Divakar Jayant takes charge as Director General of Naval Armament
New Delhi, February 3. Divakar Jayant, an officer of the Indian Naval Armament Service (INAS), assumed charge as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at Naval Headquarters under the Ministry of Defence on February 2, 2026. He succeeds P Upadhyay, who retired from service on January 31, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on February 3.
A 1991-batch officer of INAS, Jayant joined the Naval Armament Organisation of the Indian Navy in December 1992. Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, he has held several key leadership positions across major naval armament establishments, including Naval Armament Depots in Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Alwaye, as well as assignments at Naval Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence.
An alumnus of IIT Delhi with a degree in electrical engineering, Jayant brings deep expertise in the life-cycle management of torpedoes and in the planning and execution of explosive infrastructure projects. He is also known for his extensive experience in human resource management and administration. In addition, he has completed the prestigious Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration (APPPA) during 2017-18.
As DGONA, Jayant is expected to play a crucial role in overseeing naval armament planning and management, contributing to the strengthening of the Indian Navy’s operational preparedness and long-term capability development.
