Indian naval ships conclude Thailand visit, continue Southeast Asia deployment
New Delhi, June 30. Three ships of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet have departed Sattahip after completing a port call aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation between India and Thailand.
The deployment group, comprising INS Udaygiri, INS Kavaratti and INS Shakti, sailed from Thailand on June 29 for further operational deployment in the Southeast Asian region.
The ships are operating under the command of Rear Admiral Alok Ananda.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the visit formed part of India’s continued maritime engagement with Southeast Asian countries and contributed to strengthening the longstanding naval partnership with Thailand.
During the port call, senior naval leadership from both sides held discussions focused on expanding bilateral naval cooperation, improving interoperability and addressing shared maritime security challenges in the region.
The visit also featured a series of professional exchanges, operational interactions and sporting engagements between personnel of the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy.
A reception hosted onboard INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti during the visit was attended by the Nagesh Singh, senior officers of the Royal Thai Navy, members of the diplomatic community and representatives of the Indian diaspora in Thailand.
The Ministry of Defence said the deployment supports India’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) which seeks to promote a collaborative and inclusive maritime order.
The deployment also reflects the Indian Navy’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships, promoting collective maritime security and deepening bilateral ties with Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia.
