Indian Eastern Fleet ships arrive in Singapore to deepen maritime cooperation
New Delhi, July 3. Three frontline warships of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet arrived at the Changi Naval Base in Singapore on July 1 as part of India’s ongoing operational deployment in Southeast Asia aimed at strengthening regional maritime partnerships and advancing strategic cooperation.
The deployment comprises Indian naval ships Udaygiri, Kavaratti and Shakti, operating under the command of Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet.
The visit underscores the long-standing and robust naval relationship between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy and reflects New Delhi’s growing maritime engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
The port call forms part of the Indian Navy’s sustained operational presence in Southeast Asia and aligns with the Government of India’s Act East Policy and the vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions). It also contributes to the objectives of the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation 2026, which seeks to deepen maritime collaboration between India and Southeast Asian nations.
During their stay in Singapore, personnel from the two navies are scheduled to participate in a series of professional interactions, including cross-deck visits, operational discussions and exchanges on issues of mutual maritime interest. The engagements are expected to facilitate the sharing of operational experiences and best practices while enhancing mutual understanding and interoperability between the two maritime forces.
India has consistently emphasised the importance of collective maritime security and regional cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, with the Indian Navy increasingly undertaking deployments and engagements with partner countries across the region.
Officials said the visit reinforces India’s commitment to promoting collaboration among maritime partners and advancing a shared vision of a safe, secure and inclusive maritime environment across the region.
